Greetings, Brethren,
I want to open by welcoming and congratulating all of the new Sublime Princes of the Valley of Syracuse. I look forward to meeting and working with you in the future.
The Reunion Dinner, held on May 7, was very successful. The dinner, prepared and served by the member of Centerville Chapter 185 of the Order of the Eastern Star, was attended by approximately 50 people and enjoyed by all. Ill.˙. David Spencer, Active member of Supreme Council for the Valley of Syracuse was the Guest Speaker of the evening.
Our Annual Meeting and Election of Officers were held on May 9. Congratulations to all of the new officers. Once again, we have an outstanding slate! The officers were installed at a Public Installation on May 23, 2011, following a Turkey Dinner prepared and served by the Centerville Chapter, OES.
Looking ahead to this summer, there are two events to mark on your calendars. This year COD will be held July 23 – 25th at the Holiday Inn in Liverpool. The Safety ID will be held throughout the twelve days of the State Fair. Our day is Sunday, August 28th. Please contact the Valley office for details and shift assignments.
Before closing, I want to extend my personal thanks to Ill. James D. Swan, Jr, Ill. Sandy Samson, Ill. Carl Fahrenkrug and Sharon Fox for all the help and support they have given me as I prepared for this office.
Have a wonderful summer to one and all!
Fraternally,
Ill.˙.Lynwood J. Bennerson, 33º
Commander in Chief
Chapter Rose Croix
My Brothers,
I want to thank Ill. Sandy Samson, 33º for his fine leadership to the Valley of Syracuse these last two years as Our Commander in Chief, and welcome the Ill. Lynwood Bennerson, 33º as our Commander in Chief for the next two years.
It is indeed my honor to serve you as Most Wise Master of Central City Chapter Rose Croix for the next year. I have had the good fortune to have served and followed enthusiastic and dedicated Brothers while I was fulfilling my duties in Blue Lodge and now in Scottish Rite. I hope to be able to maintain the same level of achievement as my predecessor, the Reverend Brother Allan J. Ferguson, 32º. The team of officers for the following year will be a credit to the Valley of Syracuse. Many are moving up the line with me and I thank them for that. I think the nominating committee has done an excellent job! These are your Rose Croix officers. Senior Warden, Michael J. Gunn, 32º; Junior Warden, George A. Laird, Ill, 32º; Orator, Alfred W. Fergerson, 32º; Master of Ceremonies, Carlton P. Jackson, 32º; Captain of the Guard, Joshua A. Kruth, 32º; Tiler, Melvin W. Sitts, 32º and the Ill. John S. Curtis, 33º is again serving as Mentor to Rose Croix.
We will continue the tradition of red bow ties, silks and cummerbunds. We saw excellent Degree work performed in The Valley of Syracuse last year and I am sure we can maintain the high level of proficiency this year as well. Rose Croix will meet this summer with a family cookout and dish to pass. The ladies can get acquainted with one another as we plan our scheduled events for the coming year. I look forward to working with all of you,
Fraternally,
Lawrence W. Egnaczyk, 32º
Council Princes of Jerusalem
Brethren, greetings from the Council Princes of Jerusalem.
As I sit here beginning my first Word article, staring at a blank page, I am reminded that a journey begins with a single step. A step sometimes placed in darkness and in a direction that one has not gone before. A step sometimes placed with some degree of fear and apprehension. But such is not the case here. Beginning this journey as Sovereign Prince started without my knowing when I became a Scottish Rite Mason. The steps I will be taking are along a worn path laid by those traveling before me. Yes, there will be some dips and rises ahead, but I am going forward with hope and confidence that I will follow their lead and perhaps make the path smoother for those on the journey behind me. So as we embark on this continuing journey in the upcoming year, when our paths meet, and perhaps join for some time, know I will be at your side.

Lodge of Perfection
Who is on your list? What list you say? The list you have for potential new members in the Valley of Syracuse. Thought the membership committee was taking care of membership? You are part of the membership committee. You didn’t know that. Remember membership begins with me!
Having trouble figuring out who could be on your list of potential new members for the Valley of Syracuse? Do not despair. What if the person is not a mason. No problem put that person on your list. The average person knows 200 people. The average Scottish Riter knows 200 plus people. Start with family members, close friends, neighbors, workers, church members, civic group members, and others. Your list will continue to grow and grow.
What’s next? Be Prepared. Have two petitions at all times. One petition for your local lodge and another for the Valley of Syracuse. If someone on your list shows interest in becoming a member close the deal. Provide the potential member with a petition on the spot.
Congratulations to all the new officers in the Valley of Syracuse. Please support them and attend the many events planned for 2011-2012. Set up your membership list today. May you and your family enjoy the days of summer. See you sometime soon.
Fraternally,

From the Valley Secretary
Dear Brothers,
Your Officers for the four bodies of the Valley of Syracuse are installed in their new stations and places and they are ready to commence their labors for the next year. You are invited to attend any and all meetings of the Valley. 2011-2012 is another exciting year for Scottish Rite Masonry in the Valley of Syracuse.
Central City Lodge of Perfection, Central City Council Princes of Jerusalem, Central City Chapter Rose Croix and Central City Consistory were chartered in 1862. We will commemorate that event on April 28, 2012 when we celebrate the 150th anniversary. You will receive in your mail at home and read about our plans each month as we prepare for our anniversary celebration.
We cordially invite all Master Masons who are not Scottish Rite members to become a Scottish Rite Mason in the Valley of Syracuse this coming year. The 2012 Class is named in honor of Illustrious John William McNaughton, 33°, Active Member and Sovereign Grand Commander of the Supreme Council Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite for the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction of the United State of America. He is planning to be present for the conferral of the 32nd Degree on April 28, 2012 and to attend our Reunion Dinner that evening. Degree classes will commence in the Fall of 2011; all culminating on April 28, 2012 with the conferral of the Consistory degrees upon our new members.
Any Brother desiring more information about Scottish Rite Masonry and how to become a member of the Valley of Syracuse is cordially invited to contact the Valley Office (315) 452-7976 at his convenience.

Notes from the Children’s Dyslexia Center CNY
Welcome to My World
Sandy and I have decided that someone should be ordering lumber for the ark- though we are not really complaining, considering what others are going through around the country and the world.
We did have a few families who, because of flooding, had to find detours to get to the Center but most managed.
This can be a very hectic time at the Center. We are in the midst of final observations for the scholars (all of whom should be completing all their requirements in the coming month, doing post-assessment “testing” with all of the children in the program and scheduling follow-up meetings with the parent, tutor and child. We are also recruiting new scholars for next years program and setting up the schedule for the summer program for with the tutors available and children who plan to attend.
And, oh yes, preparing for our Recognition Ceremony on June 7th; always one of the favorite days for anyone involved in the activities and support of the program. At that time we are able to acknowledge the efforts and progress of all the children and tutors. If you are unable to make it, I want to bring you up to speed on Bryce’s results.
We are happy to report that Bryce made improvement in almost all areas (in a timed area he remained the same, and in his blending area he remained at the top of possible scores). The area which makes us happiest is the 2½ grade level improvement in his reading comprehension.
Though it is unlikely that we will be able to offer Bryce a third year in the program due to the numbers on our waiting list, please know that your support has brought him to a place where he now knows he can move forward and continue to succeed.
Please know that I cannot thank you enough!!!!
Linda
