Greetings to all! I hope that all of you had an enjoyable summer, despite the heat, and were able to benefit from a little rest and relaxation.
Everyone who helped and attended COD, thank you! It was a very successful session that included the program “The Ring that went around the World”, presented by Ill. Sandy Sampson. Ill. Lynwood Bennerson set up a program for the ladies that opened with members of Demolay giving The Flower Talk, and of course, presenting their mothers and all other ladies present with flowers. The ladies were also entertained by Yvonne Conte, a local humorist and writer who gave a talk entitled The Positive Power of Humor. It was a morning filled with all kinds of emotions and fun for the ladies.
Ill. James D Swan, Jr has been appointed secretary of COD, as Ill. Robert Finley has retired from that chair.
I thank all of the members who gave their time and talents with their participation in the Safety I.D. Program at this year’s NY State Fair. Your efforts certainly helped in the success of this very important project.
Supreme Council held its annual session in Chicago this year. The session included presenting two of our brothers, 1st Lt Commander Robert Tyrell and 2nd Lt. Commander Richard Powell with their 33º. I give both of them my heartfelt congratulations. The next time you see these brothers, be sure to give them your congratulations.
Our annual AASR Kick-Off Dinner and Brother Bring a Brother will be held September 12. We are going back to one of our favorites, a Steak Bake catered by Memorial 648 Fellowcraft Club. Please note that social time is at 6pm and dinner will be served at 6:30pm. All officers meeting will be September 19th at 6:00pm.
The annual Timothy O’Connor-Slater CLC Walkathon is scheduled for September 24th at the Eastern Star Campus in Oriskany. Sign in is at 9:30am and the walk begins at 10:00. A chicken barbecue will wrap up the event at 12 noon.
Plans for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Valley are well under way. Events and programs will run from April 27 through April 29, 2012. Mark your calendars and more information will be coming.
The Valley Website is up and running, thanks to 2nd Lt. Commander Ill.˙. Rick Powell. The address for the site is www.syr-aasr.org. Take a few minutes to drop in and see what’s going on in our Valley!
I look forward to seeing all of you this fall as we begin our tasks.

Council
Greetings Brethren,
The NYS Council of Deliberation was held this year at the Holiday Inn, Liverpool, July 22-24. On Saturday morning, the Valley of New York City presented the 24th degree, “Brother of the Forest” in compelling and moving fashion. It was followed by an excellent presentation of the 19th degree, “Brothers of the Trail” by the Valley of Middletown. After a break for lunch, the Valley of Syracuse provided a special program, presenting “The Ring That Went ‘Round the World”. The Council business meeting was then held and it was interesting to see how the Scottish Rite organization in NYS all comes together. The evening program was topped off by the presentation of the MSA Award Ceremony by Distinguished Members of the Valley of Buffalo.
August is NYS Fair time and again the Valley of Syracuse participated in presenting the Masonic Safety I.D. program to the public. I find it to be an enjoyable experience and a helpful and needed service. Thanks to all who gave their time to make it a success.
As we look forward into the Fall Schedule, remember the Valley Kick-off / Brother Bring a Brother Night is September 12th, and the Learning Center Walk-A-Thon in Oriskany is September 24th .
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome the newest officer to the Council line, Brother Mark Bombardo, 32nd Degree, serving as the Master of Ceremonies. Mark and his wife of 14 years; Shelley, live in Central Square, where Mark is Past Master of Central Square Lodge #622. He is also a member of the Tigris Shriners. Mark is a 21 year veteran working for the Town of Hastings, and is the Director of Code Enforcement/Community Planning & Development.

What is the true value of membership in the Scottish Rite? What does membership bring to the members of the Scottish Rite? The opportunity to make new friends is just one of many examples that bring true value to your Scottish Rite membership. The opportunity to witness degrees which tell a great story about the quest of good over evil brings more true value to your Scottish Rite membership.
Your Scottish Rite membership has a return on investment that is hard to beat. How many investments offer a lifetime guarantee? How many of your investments are backed up by people who are your brothers? How many investments provide a quality meeting place, free parking, excellent meals, and friends that are the real deal?
Your Scottish Rite membership is an extension of your family. Your Scottish Rite membership is a circle of very special friends. These very special friends come from a wide variety of stations and places. Over time the circle will grow stronger as we make more and more new friends. Those friends who move on to the house not made with hands will have left a lasting impression which will never, never die.
Encourage a friend who is not yet a Scottish Rite member to find the true value in a great fraternal organization the Scottish Rite of Ancient Freemasonry. Help to bring more masonic light to those looking for a membership with true value.
May you and your family enjoy the beautiful days of the Fall season as the leaves dwindle down to a glorious few. See you sometime soon.

Welcome to My World
Another academic year and summer program completed for our Center. The Recognition Ceremony on June 7th was a wonderful affair.
Dr. Kevin Wallace, DVMD, formerly of Syracuse and now in Oswego, was our guest speaker. He had us (we had over 100 people there) riveted with his determination and inspiration. What a great man and great experience for us.
We had five tutors and 12 children attend our five week summer program which has just concluded.
If you were able to attend our Recognition Ceremony in June you know that 11 of our children have completed their second year with us and will continue to work on their own or through private tutoring. We have already scheduled 9 of our first year children to return in the fall and are awaiting a response from the other 2. We have contacted 10 new families to offer their child an opportunity to participate in our program in the fall with one of our 5 new scholars. As you can see, we just keep plugging.
We cannot thank you enough for your continued support- every year brings new challenges (this year is the year of new computers) that we would not be able to face without you being right there.
If you are interested, or know of someone who might be interested in being a part of our program, either through the tutor-training, a donation or a child in need, please contact us.
