Greetings, As we have entered a new season, the fresh crisp air of Autumn is a welcoming site. Our Lodges have been fully immersed in doing degree work to raise a new crop of Master Masons.
I have on occasion stated that we members of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite are all Lodge Ambassadors and should be offering Scottish Rite Programs to our respective Symbolic Lodges. The Valley Membership Action Team consists of myself as Chairman, Ill.: Earl Tuttle 33° Membership and New Members Recruiting, D.B. William Toth, II 32° MSA, Members Mentoring, D.B. Terry Byard 32° MSA, Rite on The Road and D.B. Kenneth Sterling 32° MSA, Lodge Ambassador Chair. These dedicated Brothers may call on you to assist them with their respective programs and it is my hope that you will cheerfully step up to lend them a hand. Even better, contact them yourself and offer your assistance. It is our goal to build our membership to a level that it once was. Too many of our members are laying down their working tools and we need to rebuild our roles of fellow workmen so Scottish Rite Freemasonry can continue to shine in the Valley of Syracuse.
Our Veterans Recognition Night will be Monday, November 15th , 2021, with a social at 6:00pm, dinner at 6:30pm and the program will move into the Lodge room about 7:30pm. All Branches of the Military will be recognized. Special awards will be presented to a Masonic Veteran as well as a Non-Masonic Veteran.
The first St. Andrews Day Brunch is Sunday, November 21st, 2021, at the Brae Loch Inn. I hope you sent in your reservation form which was due October 30th , 2021. My Thanks to Ill.: Richard J. Powell 33° Active, for setting up this event on behalf of the Knights of St. Andrew, Syracuse. Thanks to those KSA members who assisted at this year’s NYS Council of Deliberation session.
Congratulations to Ill:. Robert M. Tyrrell, 33° for being appointed as the Deputies Representative for the Valley of Syracuse.

Chapter
The Rose Croix degree first appeared in 1757 in France on a diploma for Brother Targe. The role of Jesus as an exemplar, the rose and cross as emblems and a single cabalistic word were understood to be the True Word past masons.
However, we learn that finding the True Word of a Christian Mason requires a new law of Christianity. This includes the new theological virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity. The new Law is a law of love which all men everywhere may understand and practice. Love is more important than all of the virtues. The Rose Croix Degree teaches that the new temple is in the heart of a man where God is worshiped in spirit and in truth.
The degree uses the events from the life of Jesus to teach the lesson of this degree. It grants each man his right to answer life's questions in his own way according to his religious beliefs. The symbol on Jesus' Cross is I.N.R.I. which translates to Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews. Becomes the True Word which unlocks the Book of Life's seals. This all the virtues of Faith,Hope and Charity are the keys to the kingdom of God.
The information above is courtesy of The Plumbline “ The quarterly bulletin of the Scottish Rite Research Society” volume 28 No. 1 Spring, 2021and the 18th Degree Knight of the Rose Croix of H.R.D.M. (2007).
I look forward to the degree and all its education opportunities when it is presented on Saturday, November 27h.

Greetings Sovereign Princes. Fall is upon us and with that comes opportunities to get more involved in your Valley. We are calling on all members and especially newer members to come out and be a part of our degrees.
CPJ will be presenting the 15th in January and we are casting for that degree now. A lot of our members who take part in degrees, especially the bigger parts, are getting older and would probably cherish the chance to mentor their replacements. Contact either me or the office to volunteer.
As we enter the holiday season please remember to treasure your families and get together in a safe way. This month we honor those who served with Veteran’s Day, remember to thank them for their service.
Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Chanukah. Stay safe everybody.
God bless you all, Freemasons, our military and this great country.

Princes and Brethren All: Wow, The Scottish Rite and the Valley has really kicked off the fall season with a bang. Since my last writing we held the Council of Deliberation (COD) on the 24th and 25th of September; Lodge of Perfection Degrees on the 11th of October; White Hat Recognition Night on the 18th of October; and the 22nd and 32nd Degrees in The Valley of Norwood. Many Congratulations are in order for our newest 32nd Degree Masons!! It is our greatest desire that you all become fully engaged and love the AASR as much as we do. The Council of Deliberation was extra special this year with the Sovereign Grand Commander, Peter J. Samiec, 33° in attendance for the full weekend. As in the last few years the Knights of Saint Andrew were responsible for several of the tasks and administrative duties at the session and as usual did an outstanding job. Many thanks go out to all Knights in attendance that pitched in and to Ill. Rick Powell for organizing the Knights and setting up the schedule of duties. Of special note this year was the recognition given to Ill. Jim and Sharon Swan for their years of service and familial devotion to the Scottish Rite and the Council of Deliberation (Jim had served as COD Secretary for the past 10 years, this being his last year). On a very personal note, I can’t think of a finer example of service to our Beloved Craft than the example Ill. Jim and Sharon Swan give each and every day!!
Also, at the COD a New Leadership program has been announced, under the direction of Ill. Rick Powell and his team, called the “Excelsior” program. It is a multi-faceted program that will include Virtual and in person leadership sessions. A lecture series, and a video news series called XLCR32. This exciting new program is just another example of how Scottish Rite Masonry in New York is leading the way in opportunities to improve ourselves as men and Masons. All while being at the forefront of adapting technology to its effective use in our fraternity. More information may be obtained by visiting www.nyscottishritemasons.org/excelsior
Speaking of technology, there is some really cool Masonic discussion going on right now. Peacock TV (a NBC streaming Service) is hosting a mini-series on Dan Browns book “The Lost Symbol” and two of the premier Masonic Podcast shows are doing specials, talking about the Masonic symbology displayed on the show and in Dan Browns Book. They are illustrating what
is fact and what is fiction on the story, exploring easter eggs etc. The two Podcast shows can be
seen on YouTube; One is “Symbols & Secrets” Hosted by Maynard Edwards of the AASR
Southern Masonic Jurisdiction. The other is “The Found Symbol” Produced by the Masons of the “Masonic Round Table. If you are interested in our symbology and are technically inclined I
highly recommend checking these out, its fun and informative.
Coming back to the Valley, November will bring in our Veterans Recognition Night on November 15th and the Chapter of Rose Croix Degrees on the 27 th . Each of these events will prove to continue our strive for excellence in programing at the Valley. In closing I submit to you a Thanksgiving Prayer from Arthur R. Herrmann at the Masonic Poets Society “Oh, Lord now this we are thankful for: The good things life has held in store; The love of those within our home, and friends to greet wherever we roam; the health and strength wherewith to toil, the bounteous food from freedoms soil; we thank the for the right to pray and worship thee in our own way; To live within land that’s free; For this dear Lord, our thanks to thee; And through these blessings, one by one, may thy will, Lord, on earth be done!” May you and your families have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!
