Consistory
Well as we move into March we are coming to the end of another Masonic year. Spring is just around the corner and good weather is ahead. There is not much going on in the Consistory for the month, but we have several Degrees for the other bodies.

We are continuing with the meetings for the Masonic Picnic. This is going to be a great event and open to all Masons. There are games for the children and adults alike. We will also have a dunk tank where the proceeds will go to the Dyslexia Center. So, come on out and have a great time on July 20th .

Looking down the road we will have a Degree day on April 6 th with 4 video Degrees and the live 32nd Degree. This will allow anyone who wants to join can come in that day.

I look forward to seeing you all in Lodge.

D.B.  Garry L. Visconti, 32° MSA
Commander in Chief

Chapter
Dear Brethren,

I hope you are all well as our winter season continues and safe in your travels. February sure was cold! On Monday, February 18 th the Chapter of Rose Croix hosted the Caregiver Program continuing the honor our Valley bestows upon caring individuals whose charity and selfless service to others is noteworthy as a token of grace and thanks. Thank you to all who came and helped make it happen. I hope you enjoyed your time.

The next Rose Croix event will be the conferral of the 18 ˚ degree on Saturday, March 16th with registration at 9:00 a.m. I look forward to the class attending and ask that if within the length of your cable-tow to please attend as the 18˚, for upon reception and when revisited it has great value. The 18˚ is a hallmark degree for many reasons.

In the Chapter, we continue seeking the True Word amongst the chaos and tumult of the world, we learn that the Knights Rose Croix of Heredom (Heredom is often explained as meaning the inheritors of a holy house, lordship, or mountain) are not only inheritors in a literal or material sense, but that we also inherit the spirit of justice, equality, harmony, communication, tolerance, and unity. We learn of Noblesse Oblige and to be prepared as caretakers, considerate as neighbors and about responsibility and duty to others. We learn of the great martyrs of the past who fought for liberty, justice, and truth. We learn to be at peace when the war is waged from within and the valuable lesson that freedom is not free.

Indeed, the aforementioned constitutes noble conduct; They are lessons which the Rose Croix builds from the teachings in the Ineffable Degrees. And it should be noted, that in Chapter we are reborn, for it is here where we find the True Word, a living word, an action, which unifies, rectifies and creates love, harmony and continuity. It is here where we amplify our Blue lodge lessons and in further light learn to enact making positive choices for the future while being considerate and honor the past. It is our chain of union and where in this way we as Knights of the Rose Croix face the woe and calamity of this world.

For what we do presage is riot in grosse,
For we are brethren of the Rosie Crosse;
We have the Mason Word and second sight,
Things for to come we can foretell aright.
— Henry Adamson, The Muses’ Threnodie (1638)

Sincerely & Fraternally,
Caleb Haines, 32°

Council

Greetings Princes,
This month we will be doing the 15th Degree. The degree has many elements to it that apply to our Masonic teachings and understanding, but one of the principle examples is of fidelity to the obligation in spite of highly tempting incentives. Integrity is a cornerstone of our fraternity. Seeing this in this context gives us an example of how we might face our own temptations and understand where higher loyalty and fidelity should be placed.

I hope you join us on March 16 th as we put on this Degree for you.

I recently watched the movie First Man. It was a movie about the journey of Neil Armstrong in his becoming the first to set foot on the moon. One scene had Neil talking about why we go into space, and while it is in part the adventure of accomplishing something great, in the sense of conquering the highest mountains, he said it was really because it allowed us to change our perspective. Changing out view of things from a new angle that we were never before able to would bring about new ways of thinking and new understanding of things.

Our Degrees, and the degrees and ceremonies of the various concordant bodies, operate in a similar way. Our time in Lodge, from the outer courts to being raised as a Master Mason, these give us the principles of our time honored institution. The Degrees help illustrate these principles from a different perspective, which helps us understand or brings to light aspects of our teachings which we only saw dimly.

I look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting.

Fraternally,
James A. Nelson, 32º
Sovereign Prince

Lodge
Welcome back brethren! As the snow and ice have been hit or miss, more hit lately

than miss this winter. I hope everyone has been safe and warm as they progress
through the stages of snow and ice removal.

In March, the Lodge of Perfection is putting on our signature degree, the 14th degree, on
11 March 2019. The Valley of Syracuse is also conferring the 15th degree and 18th
degree on Saturday, March 16th , 2019 beginning at 9:30 am.

Thank you for the continued support and all the challenges and fellowship that comes
along with it! Hope to see you all soon!

Fraternally,
Ken Sterling, 32°

Welcome to My World
Notes from the Children’s Dyslexia Center CNY

Wow- what a roller coaster we have been on since returning from our Christmas Break. The weather has not been our friend- (Last week we were in the minus teens – this week we are in the 60’s) and we have spent a great deal of time re-scheduling mid- year assessments and meetings. Normally they would be all done by now but hopefully by Mid-February we will have them all
completed.

All the children and tutors continue to move forward despite school closings and viral flus- always an ongoing challenge in the winter. Glenn and his family were victims of both of these, and he is ‘rescheduled’ for his mid-year assessment this week so I will bring you an update next month. We also continue to receive applications and calls for information about our program, both for children and tutor-trainees. This is another ongoing challenge - to try and meet the needs of all those contacting us. Your support and help are so appreciated as we face these issues and attempt to find better solutions.

In mid-December one of our new young ladies decided she was not going to participate during her sessions or, at times, even come in for her sessions.

These incidents involved full blown temper tantrums and power struggles between this fourth grader and her mother.  On the third such display, I instructed the young lady that she would have to participate willingly or her spot would be given to another child wanting to come to the program.  She chose to leave and we prepared to call the next family- we had the new file in hand when the unhappy young lady reappeared at the door asking to be allowed to continue her sessions.  I led her to her tutoring room, reminding her that there would be no other opportunities for the previous behavior.

Since that time, the young lady has willing come to and participated in her sessions.  Today we had her mid-year assessment meeting. She had done very well on her assessment and was very pleased with herself.  She wanted her mother to show us her school report card showing that she is doing better in school and that her reading has gone up one grade level (from a first grade level to a second grade level) since she has been in the program {the school has yet to classify her as having a major reading problem- despite the fact that she has been consistently 3 grades below her reading level). How nice to see Mom and daughter both smiling and proud of her accomplishments.

GALA preparations continue to be part of our daily routine as we can fit them in. The committee has met several times, coming in before the Center opens to work on whatever can be done. News Flash- we will have a Photo Booth- Should be fun for all. We have received so much wonderful support from your members and look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at
Hart’s Hill in on March 9 th . By now you will have all received your invitations, but you should feel free to contact the Center with any questions (Remember- we will be closed for President’s Week, starting Feb. 18th.)

Thank you again for all the support that allows this to happen!
