Consistory
This is the time of year that we remember our sweethearts in the Valley of Syracuse. On February 10th we will be having our Caregivers Dinner with our Ladies. Be sure to get your reservations in ASAP. If you missed the mailing, call the Valley office to find out if you can still make the dinner. The Caregiver Award will be presented in the Lodge room immediately following dinner. Thanks to Hank Havener for putting together a great program.

January 13th was our Spring Membership Night with Ladies and special guests. We had a great music program by Tim Burns. We received several petitions for membership that became part of the Ill. Richard J Powell, 33° Class.

The Robert Burns Supper on January 25th was as successful as ever. We shared many Toasts, some poetry and of course my favorite, Haggis!! Some people feel it is an acquired taste and I have to agree. All it takes is a little or a lot of A1 steak sauce. Thanks to Rick and Marian Powell for all their hard work to put this event together.

On January 27th we conferred the 4° and 10°, many thanks to Terry Byard and Stephen Maddox and the cast for all their hard work on the 10°.

We have planned a Scottish Rite Family Life event at Syracuse Crunch vs Rochester Amerks ice hockey game on Saturday Feb.15,2020. Tickets are $17 each, pay at Valley of Syracuse office. You pick up your tickets at “Will Call”. More Information was posted in the January Word article. Thanks to Br. Ken Sterling for putting this together.

I ask that all officers of the four Bodies that comprise the Valley of Syracuse to support each other’s programs to the best of your ability. As an officer, your attendance at the Valley of Syracuse programs is expected.

Fraternally,
D.B.  Lawrence W. Egnaczyk, 32° MSA
Commander in Chief

Council

Greetings Sovereign Princes.

As I write this, it is 54 degrees out! Does that mean winter is over? Being this is Central NY I am going to say no.

Your Valley officers are in the process of a Member-to-Member program to reach out to all of our members. If you receive a phone call from a Brother you might not know it is for this program. We want to make sure we have good contact and military service information for each member. If you are not comfortable with speaking to someone you do not know, reach out to the AASR office at ny017@twcny.rr.com or (315) 452-7976 and they will take your information.

In February we are going to be having Caregiver’s Dinner on the 10th along with 23° on the 24th. Looking ahead, The Council Princes of Jerusalem will be presenting the 16° on March 9th. There will also be a video presentation of the 4° – this will be one of your last chances to see the “old” 4° so stop out for some fellowship and fun.
If any Brother is in need of assistance contact any Valley officer or the office. God bless you all, Freemasons, our military and this great country.

James McNeal, 32º DSA
Sovereign Prince

Lodge
Scottish Riter’s, Greetings from the Lodge of Perfection.

By this writing we are well into the winter season. We hope you all are faring well with the snow and ice. January brought A successful Spring Membership night, Robert Burns Supper and for the LOP a successful 10th Degree Conferral.

As January is the month of “New Beginnings”, February From the Latin word Februarius, meaning “to purify”, February was known as the “Month of Purification” during ancient Roman times. Reflecting on our Scottish Rite Journey, The Lodge of Perfection Degrees are all moral lessons designed to “purify” us from some of the vices and superfluities of life making us better men and Masons.

Viewing the 4th thru 14th Degree Summaries on the Scottish Rite Northern Masonic Jurisdiction website (https://scottishritenmj.org/about/what-is-32-scottish-rite-freemasonry/lodge-of-perfection), we can reflect on some of those great moral lessons.

With no Degree work scheduled for February we look forward to the Caregiver’s Dinner with the Ladies this month and hope that it will be a great success as we honor our those who have dedicated service and love to giving care for others. As in the 9th Degree, a “Master of the Temple” is taught that God is best served by those who best serve their fellowmen and who reveal in their own lives the compassion of the Eternal.

Welcome to My World
Notes from the Children’s Dyslexia Center CNY

Where does the time go?? Who could imagine that we are into the 2020 part of our 2019-2020 Academic year? We have already survived one month of winter, school closings, the flu and a variety of ‘bugs’ impacting our tutoring sessions. We know we can do it so we will persevere.
As we come back from the holiday-break we find ourselves going full tilt into preparations for the March 14 GALA and also for our Information Sessions to be held for our Tutor training program for 2020-21. Planning ahead is the only way things can keep happening here so if you know of someone who would enjoy supporting us at the GALA or would like to be trained to help children with Dyslexia and reading difficulties, please have them contact us.

I have exciting news to share with you about our young man, Glenn. Glenn is in his third year at the Center- as you recall his Dyslexia is very severe in that his auditory (sound) and visual (letter recognition) parts of the brain never established pathways of communication. We have been working on that for him for the last 2 ½ years. Glenn is now ‘owning’ many letters of the alphabet and their sounds as well as reading and writing some three letter words. You will also remember that he is a very bright young man who is able to learn and retain through visual and auditory experiences. His school has finally been giving him the appropriate accommodations and has realized that resource room is not what he needs. This fall he was mainstreamed into the
classroom full time (with his accommodations) and – wait for it- made honor roll his first quarter. Hurray for Glenn and his tutor and his perseverance. We have been given a dispensation to keep Glenn in our program a fourth year to ensure that we can give his brain time to establish as many necessary pathways a possible. You should realize that this was not an easy request for me to make as we have surpassed our two years waitlist numbers. The reason I could justify keeping Glenn another year is that he is not like the majority of our children whose brains begin to “click in” after two years in the program and keep moving forward for the children as they use their rules and tools. Once we have helped Glenn establish the necessary paths of communication in his brain to the point that he will be able to reinforce them by using his Rules and Tools. Your support has given this young man hope for the future that he and his family were not sure would ever happen. What wonderful things you are doing.

I am in hopes that we will see many of you on March 14 th at Hart’s Hill Inn in Whitesboro for our 6 th Annual GALA Celebration and Fundraiser!
