Greetings Brethren! Reverence for God is one of the Core Values of Scottish Rite Masonry. In deference to the fact that every religion around the world has Holy Days and Observances during the month of December we have few plans for formal gatherings to avoid conflicting with any religious activities. In addition, we hope that you will have more opportunities to spend time with your family during this Holiday Season. The only events scheduled for the Valley are our Holiday Celebration with our Ladies on December 11th (Social Time at 6:00 PM, Dinner at 6:30 PM and Program starting at 7:30 PM) and our Holiday Luncheon on December 27th at Twin Trees III (Pizza Buffet beginning at 11:45 AM til?). Please note that we will be collecting food and monetary donations for the Food Bank at our Holiday Celebration on December 11th . There is a mailing with reservation forms for both events. Please return the reservation form or call the office with your reservation. I hope to see you there!
I would also like to make it known that Memorial Masonic Temple has acquired an AED (Automated Electronic Defibrillator) which has been installed in the building. The Cicero Volunteer Fire Dept. will be conducting user training on December 16th beginning at 10:00 AM. Any Scottish Rite Mason who is interested in receiving instruction on the use of an AED is welcome to attend, but please contact the Scottish Rite Office no later than December 12th so we can make sure we have an appropriate amount of training materials on hand. I strongly encourage attendance at this training. Wouldn't you want to know what to do if someone attending an event with you had a medical emergency and needed someone to use the AED?
We have had to postpone two Rite on the Road events recently as a result of sickness and a military deployment. Those Rite on the Road events will be rescheduled and we are also looking to schedule two additional Rite on the Road events. These events are critical to our attaining Valley of Excellence status again this year. This program couldn't be easier! If you know of a fellow Mason who is interested in joining Scottish Rite we will bring everything to you to get you started on your Scottish Rite Journey. We will need the use of a Lodge Room (not on a Lodge meeting night) to open a Lodge of Perfection meeting and confer the 4th Degree. A Lodge of Perfection...sounds intriguing, doesn't it? Help us schedule a Rite on the Road event in your Lodge and let us bring Scottish Rite Masonry to your Lodge Brothers.
And now a teaser for our Family Life Event at the Syracuse Crunch on February 10, 2024. I have just learned that we may be able to have up to 8 of our members “on the bench” to watch the Crunch warm up prior to the game. Stay tuned for more information on this Family Life Event.
As Masons, many of us have come to associate the word “Ritual” as a chore...something to be memorized and presented or performed. At this time of year “Ritual” takes on a different meaning. It is the rituals you spend with your families...baking holiday treats with the children (or grandchildren), putting up holiday lights, decorating, and preparing family feasts. It is also the comfort of religious rituals and traditions which bring a sense of inner peace. It is my hope that these familiar rituals and traditions bring you a profound sense of happiness.
On behalf of the Valley of Syracuse, I wish for you and your families a relaxing and peaceful Holiday Season and a prosperous and healthy New Year.

Chapter
Greetings, Princes: In October, we took part in the cast of the 16th Degree, to learn more about how such productions are put together, and be able to do a better job in putting our own (the 18th Degree). We want to thank the other Leaders of the Chapter, that attended this event.
We also want to thank RW Michael Miller, High Priest of the Council of Princes of Jerusalem, who ran this live degree, for providing us with much help and advice for said task.
We have now to start preparing and rehearsing for the live presentation of the 18th Degree that the Rose Croix Chapter will develop at the end of January. I am hoping that members of all four Bodies can participate with us in this production. We also have a video presentation of the 17th Degree, that night, and a small collation afterwards.
In addition to providing players for the cast, the Rose Croix Chapter is also responsible to organize the activity and the collation. We count on our Chapter Leadership group. But other Brothers are also welcome!
We want to congratulate our immediate Past Most Wise Master, Bro. Richard Barret, who was recently granted the Red Hat (MSA) for his excellent work.
Please, keep our military and our country in our prayers, and peace in the world.
Keep safe. Fraternally,
Jorge L. Romeu, 32°

Council
I want to thank again the COUNCIL OF PRINCES OF JERUSALEM for a beautiful degree in October 2023. From the costumes to the work, hearing and watching the degrees was terrific. The following week was special regarding learning the ancient craft of stone masonry. I finally understand the historical and direct connection among all masons.
Being different can be challenging for men in our society and our fraternity. From physical impairments to emotional or spiritual challenges, we are all called to seek openness to new ways of thinking. For those with physical impairments, your Scottish Rite in Syracuse has been blessed by leadership who designed the Masonic Memorial Building in North Syracuse without stairs or other physical impairments. Our building leadership may have been ahead of our time. Thank you to those Brothers who had the foresight to have accessibility as they were building Memorial Lodge building.
You can be different in the Scottish Rite, especially in the Valley of Syracuse. We accept all members. Enjoy being different.
I wish all a joyous Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza, and Holiday season.

I hope by now everyone’s Thanksgiving dinner has settled, and you were able to spend this special time of the year with your loved ones. Maybe a phone call is all you were able to share, but it can make all the difference in the world to hear a loved one’s voice during the Holidays.
I look forward to our Brother-to-Brother Contact program and catching up with our Brothers that have moved from our area in favor of a more pleasant climate. I know they enjoy hearing from us and taking the time to listen to their stories of their time in the Valley of Syracuse. It is good to let them know that they are not forgotten, and we are not calling to chase them down for their dues.
I think it would be great to hear from these Brothers more often and ask them to drop us a letter now and then so that it can be shared with our Brothers at our meetings and keep up with them.
Mark your calendars for our Membership Night with the Ladies on Monday, January 22, 2024. Social is at 6:00pm, Dinner will be served at 6:30pm to be followed by a program in the Lodge room at 7:30pm. So, keep your eyes out for any Brothers who have an interest in Scottish Rite Freemasonry and invite them and their Ladies to be the guests of the Valley this evening. Central City Lodge of Perfection is presenting the program of interest this evening.
The 4th degree can be presented on any date that the Council, Chapter or Consistory are scheduled to confer a degree for any new petitioner interested in joining the Valley of Syracuse if they have contacted the Valley Secretary and taken the appropriate steps to begin their journey.
May God Bless the Men and Women protecting our Country, our First responders, and God Bless the President and the United States of America!

Hospitaler
Hello Brethren, Hope this month finds you all fine. We have had several brothers and their families with health issues. Diana Toth continues to improve, George Caswell wife is back in the hospital and not doing well, Robert Crump’s mom passed away, Bob Tyrrel’s wife Cindy had her 2nd knee replacement and is home on rehab, just to name a few. The sad news is that 3 Brothers have passed away and we pray for their families during this time of sorrow. We did have a few Brothers and their families get COVID but all seem to be doing better now. Please be safe when you are out and about as it is the time of year for the flu. I have not been notified of anyone else with issues which is a good thing. If you need anything or know of someone in need please feel free to contact me.
I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Welcome to My World
Notes from the Children’s Dyslexia Center CNY
The beginning rush of the year has finally settled down. Our students and tutors have begun to move into a steady rhythm working with each other and making progress and gains. The first-year students are close to hitting the lightbulb moment. This is the beautiful point where they begin to view the printed material in a new way. Many of our students also begin to emerge from their shell and no longer feel the need to hide or be hidden. It is such a joy to watch them come out of their cocoon.
Our Practitioner 1 class is off from Saturday trainings as she continues her practicum and class assignments. In the Practitioner 2 class we have one last training in early December before resuming in March with both Practitioner 1 and Practitioner 2 classes. The Practitioner 2 class is growing with their students as they continue to work on advanced material. This material covers comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, morphology, and fluency.
With the weather change everyone is looking forward to the upcoming Holidays. The Dyslexia Center will be closed from December 22 and we will resume tutoring January 3, 2024. Excitement abounds for all. With these upcoming holidays we call forth our gratitude for all we are blessed with, for all of our generous donors and gifts received.
From everyone here at the Center, we wish all of you a very blessed Holiday Season.

2024 Annual Membership Dues
Thank you to those who have paid their 2024 Member’s Dues. If your Member’s Dues for 2023 and earlier years are not paid by January 31, 2024 your membership in the Valley of Syracuse could be suspended for non- payment of your Annual Member’s Dues by Supreme Council, 33° A.A.S.R., NMJ, USA.
Prior to August 2021 the Valley of Syracuse mailed out next year’s Member’s Dues invoices in late November each year. Your Dues year was January 1 to December 31 the following year. Many of our members traditionally paid their annual dues in the third quarter of each year.
Supreme Council changed the Member’s Dues payments dates in August 2021 to a “NEW STANDARDIZED DUES PAYMENT SCHEDULE” with invoices distributed by Supreme Council starting in August each year and with a new “required to be paid by date of January 31 the next year.”
This change in collection schedule resulted in an increase in the number Valley of Syracuse members not paying their Annual Dues timely to the new schedule. As of August 1, 2023; the “new Supreme Council Member’s Dues collection date” the members of the Valley of Syracuse owed in excess of $ 6,000.00 in unpaid 2023 and earlier years member’s dues.
When you receive your 2024 Member’s Dues invoice; If you have any questions regarding the status of the payment of your 2023 and/or earlier Member’s Dues and/or your 2024 Member’s Dues please contact the Valley office. (315) 452- 7976 or e-mail at [email protected] or [email protected] at your earliest convenience.
A new Scottish Rite Member’s Card was included with your invoice for your 2024 Member’s dues. If you have misplaced it or did not receive the new 2024 Annual Member’s card included with your 2024 Member’s Dues invoice please notify the office and a replacement card will be requested for you.

Fraternally,
