Greetings Brethren,
For those of you that participated in the Degree work offered to our new class recently - thank you. The gift of your time and effort does not go un-noticed. The messages portrayed in the degrees offered in Scottish Rite are some of the strongest examples of the values we as humans hold. Each time I witness a degree the message gets reinforced, becomes a little stronger, and I go away with a better understanding of how we all fit in this journey called life. I hope it is the same for you. In fact, I am pretty sure it is. At a recent degree conferral, I took a moment to look about the room and realized how many different types of men were there, with different skills, with different interests, from different walks of life, from different communities (some far away), from different ethnic backgrounds, and different family situations, and how they were all there for a common purpose, that being - taking an active part in sharing their values as men and showing support to the new members coming into the Valley. There is no better way to show them what being a Scottish Rite Mason means.
As we enter this special time of the year, gather around you - those in your life that mean the most. Keep in mind and pray for those who may not have the means to celebrate because of health or financial reasons. Reach out to help those in need. Give the gift of brotherly love. Spread the message of this, and all seasons – to love one another.

Greetings Brethren,
Seasons Greetings Brethren! It is December already and Christmas is rapidly approaching which leads me into the topic of this article. As we all know this is the 200th Anniversary of Scottish Rite Freemasonry in the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. There have been numerous events, a beautiful Anniversary Jewel and other items commemorating this milestone in our history. One in particular which I would like to mention is a book titled, A Sublime Brotherhood- Two Hundred Years of Freemasonry in the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. I saw it advertised in the Team Update email. Being a book person I ordered a copy. When I received it I was more than pleased with this hardcover, large format ( 8-1/2"x10-3/4"), 159 page, elaborately illustrated, high quality work. It covers from the pre 1813 era to present. This is one of those books written to be either read cover to cover or to be placed next to your easy chair and opened at random and enjoyed in part. This is a must have for any Masonic Library. It would be a great Christmas gift for that hard to buy for Brother Mason or you may want to add it to your Christmas want list from Santa. It can be ordered from the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum and Library, 781 861-6559 for about $35. You will not be disappointed.
Just a reminder of the following events in December. On 12/9 is our Holiday Celebration beginning with a Social @ 6:00 p.m., Dinner @ 6:30 followed by a Program @ 7:30. On 12/16 the Lodge of Perfection will hold a 9th Degree Rehearsal @ 7:00 p.m.and on Friday 12/27 there will be the annual Holiday Luncheon at Twin Trees Restaurant @ 11:30 a.m.
God Bless and Merry Christmas to You and Your Families and all of those in our Military, especially those who cannot be home during this holiday season.

Greetings Brothers,
This past month our Valley has suffered a big loss with the passing of Hadwin Card, George Black, and Willard Bahn. In addition there are several more Brothers, and or family members with serious illnesses. As the Holidays are fast approaching please keep these Brothers and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
During my November trip to the Masonic Care Community in Utica I visited with Brothers Ray Harvey, and Leo Dunham. They both asked that I say hello to everyone for them, and they would welcome a visit.
Please keep me posted on any Brother in need of our aid or sympathy, or if you would like me to write an update on the condition of a loved one.
Stay safe over the Holidays. Merry Christmas,

Notes from the Children’s Dyslexia Center CNY
Once again my first order of business is to personally “Thank” all of those who assisted us, in any way, to raise funds: this time at our Barnes and Noble Book Fair. We know we would not be here without your support but I would like to give a special “Thank You” to Sandy and Gineal (our receptionists), John, Jenn and Karen (tutors) and Abby (one of our students this year.) They all manned the entry table and/or crafts table for the day and helped to make it a very successful one.
This early in the academic year it is difficult to give you many specifics regarding the children but I spoke with Nathaniel’s tutor and she reported that he is really taking ownership of his new rules. He is a hard worker and continues to keep his positive attitude as he comes for sessions at the Center and we look forward to his continued success.
I want to remind you that you can let your local schools know that we are now in the position to do training programs in the schools to give more teachers and resource personnel the tools to help children with reading difficulties. In comparison to most “in school” training programs, the cost is very reasonable and the outcome can be priceless. Any interested schools or facilities, public or private, should feel free to contact the Dyslexia Center for more information.
Wishing the best in upcoming Holiday Season and our thanks, as always, for your continued support.

Knights of the Double Eagle
Brother Sublime Princes,
It is finally time to explain the sign-in sheets at all our Valley functions. You were part of a trial program for recruiting men as Knights of the Double Eagle. The good news: the trial was easier than I expected. The bad news: we have many potential Knights of the Double Eagle who do not know their status!
Every Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret in the Valley of Syracuse is an enrolled member in this program. You do not have to sign up. You do not pay any extra dues. You do have to get active in the Valley in order to realize the benefits of being a Knight of the Double Eagle. Attending a degree or social function earns you 25 points. Taking part in a degree is another 25 points. Working at the Learning Center Walk-a-thon is another 25 points. Paying your dues within the first month is a 75 point gain, and so on.
We will place the full outline and point system of the Knights of the Double Eagle on the Valley website.
Here’s to seeing many men wearing the jewel, increment bars and colored cords as Knights of the Double Eagle.
