Greetings Brethren,
March was a busy month, thankfully the weather was, for the most part, great. A huge thank you to all those that attended the Children’s Dyslexia Center, CNY 2nd Annual Gala Fundraiser at the Hart’s Hill Inn in Whitesboro, NY. The Gala helped raised much needed funds for the Center.
In April, we have our Executive Committee meeting on the 4th and 15° conferral on the 11th.
Coming up on Wednesday, April 13th, we will be holding a special luncheon on the occasion of Ill. Paul Fritch’s 100th birthday. Details can be found elsewhere on this page. Take the day off to help Paul celebrate, I am.
The 33° Club will be meeting at the Memorial Masonic Center on Monday, April 18th. Our May Trustees & Executive Committee meetings will be held on April 25th due to the Grand Lodge Session on the first Monday in May.
Have you been interested in joining Scottish Rite but have not been able to make the Monday Degrees this Masonic season? Fear not! We will hold a marathon batch of degrees in the fall. On Saturday, September 24th, the Valley of Syracuse will confer 4°(v), 12°(v), 14°(L), 22°(v), 30°(L), and 31°(v). Taking these degrees will make you eligible for the 32°, which will be conferred in Utica on Saturday, November 12th. Call the Office for details.
This year I'm involved with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the head shaving organization that raises money for much needed childhood cancer research worldwide. I know that my long hair has been driving everyone crazy so I’ll be shaving my head on April 10th at Kitty Hoynes Irish Pub & Restaurant . See the article on this page for information on how to donate. Thank you for your support.
See you soon...
Fraternally,
Ill.'. Richard J Powell, 33°

Council
Greetings Brethren,
It’s hard to believe that April is here. The year is going so fast. April 11th @ 7:30pm The Council will be conferring the 15th degree. Come to see a good degree and meet the new brothers.
We tend to be the 'rock' for our family and friends, for all to lean on when times get tough. Remember to take some time for yourself and refresh. Even rocks wear down. A day trip to the Adirondacks, a round of golf, bowl a couple of games or even a visit to lodge to shake hands can replenish the spirit and give new hope.

Lodge
Greetings Brethren!
The Lodge of Perfection has had an exciting and busy year so far. I would like to thank all the brothers of the Valley of Syracuse for their enthusiasm and dedication in helping put on all of our Lodge of Perfection degrees. It was very nice to have so many newer brothers, and some we haven’t seen in a while, to take on and participate in the 7th degree with a large attendance of sideliners. What an outstanding presentation of the 14th degree on March 28th. This is why the 14th degree is one of the Valley of Syracuse’s signature degrees.
Participation in all the Valley of Syracuse has to offer can ultimately earn you the designation of “Knight of the Double Eagle”. Things like attending meetings, participating in degrees, and holding officer positions in one of the four bodies are all points earners towards this goal.
We should as, Scottish Rite Masons, be extremely proud of our crown jewel in Oriskany. “The Children’s Dyslexia Center of Central New York”. Brethren for the sake of the learning center and the children it benefits, please participate in one of the many fund raisers held throughout the year. Events such as the most recent gala held at Hart’s Hill Inn, the upcoming Teddy Bear Golf Classic at Vesper Hills in August, and the Walk-A-Thon at the campus in Oriskany later in October. Our center would not exist without donations from all of you and the generous people of Central New York.
As a reminder to all the newer members of the Valley we are always looking for new members to join us in portraying our degrees. Please see me if you have an interest in participating or if you have any questions as to what it is like to be on a degree cast. There are always many non-speaking parts along with the speaking parts. The more members on the degree cast the more of a lasting impression will be experienced by the candidate.
Please brethren remember to contact brothers you haven’t seen in awhile and help get them back to attending the exciting events we have planned for them. May the blessing of the Great Architect be upon all of you, your families, and our nation’s military service members.
See you soon in the Lodge of Perfection!

Greetings Brethren,
Spring is here at last, along with the tulips and daffodils. Unfortunately I have received word that many of our Brothers and or, their loved ones are facing a number of ongoing health issues. George Laird, Bruce Ackerman, Ron Waterbury, to name a few. Please keep all of them, and their families in your thoughts and Prayers. It was nice to see and speak with some of these people at the Feast of Paschal Lamb, and hopefully reassure them they are not alone if help is needed.
If any Brother is in need of our aid and sympathy, please contact Robert Tyrrell or myself ,we may be able to help. Stay healthy and don’t forget those “Blue Envelopes”

Welcome to My World
Notes from the Children’s Dyslexia Center CNY
By the time you read this we will have enjoyed a wonderful evening at our second annual GALA on March 12th at Hart’s Hill Inn in New Hartford: Building Blocks for Reading. What a wonderful response we received from everyone and I will be happy to give you a full report next month.
This month I am going to tell you about a rare situation that occurred at the Center. It is never optimum when we have to consider asking a family to “take a break” from the Center but it does happen every now and then.
We have a family that has had several unfortunate situations within their family and workplace which caused attendance for the child to be sporadic at best. As you can imagine, this caused stress for the child, the family, the tutor and the Center. This is never a good situation for anyone, especially the child who found it difficult to concentrate, and the tutor, who found lesson planning an even greater challenge.
I made the difficult decision to give everyone “a break” for the remainder of this academic year and filled the open slot with another child on the waitlist. That does not mean we have abandoned the first child; it means that that child will come back into the program this summer, “begin again” and continue through next year, with the hope that the family situation has been resolved.
As always, thanks in great part to your continued support, everyone at the Center works hard to do the best we can for all of the children and families involved in the program. Like everything else in life, this is not without some added challenges and surprises but we continue to do the best we can.
Thank you again for all that you do to allow us this privilege.
