Consistory
Greetings Sublime Princes, Please take notice that there have been some significant changes to our Spring Schedule in the Valley of Syracuse. Letters will be sent out from the Valley office
listing the new dates for our Spring events.
A reminder, the February Trustees and Executive meetings will be via Zoom and the link will be sent out by the Valley Secretary. February 14th will be our annual Caregivers event, so make sure to get your reservations in to the office in a timely manner. The caterers need an accurate count for those in attendance so they will have purchased enough food for the evening.
February 21, 2022 will be our rehearsal for the 32 nd degree at the Masonic Memorial Center at 7pm. The March 26, 2022, Degree schedule has been moved to April 30th , 2022, to the Valley of Utica to accommodate a conflict in the Valley of Utica.
We all have our fingers crossed that we can resume our programs without interruptions from this nasty pandemic which has affected most of our programs over the last two years. First and foremost, we must do so in a safe manner to protect all our Brothers, Sisters and their families. We have sworn to obey all laws, rules and edicts of the Grand Lodge so please follow the directives sent to us for the safety of all we may encounter.
May the Grand Architect of the Universe watch over us all and bring us out of this pandemic safe and sound.

Fraternally,
D.B.  Lawrence W. Egnaczyk, 32° MSA

Sir Knights. I would like to reference the 18th degree (2007 edition) to explain the symbols and their meanings. During the 17th & 18th degrees, reference is made to a book known as the Sealed Book. This book symbolizes a record of mankind’s existence and their failures. Its seal is broken by the virtues of faith, hope, charity and love of all men. The symbol of the Lamb is that of sacrifice with Jesus being its supreme sacrifice. The Flaming Sword represents God's authority and omnipotence against evil. The cross is an external symbol of conquest and sacrifice to overcome sin & death. The Rose on the Cross represents resurrection and splendor that awaits us in eternity. The robes worn by the officers are white and have a red cross to  indicate purity and both sacrifice and reward. This degree can be applied to any religion and their figurehead. I hope this information will help when you witness the degree.

I want to invite all brothers and their wives to a dinner at 6:00p.m. on February 24, 2022. We will be presenting plates for our Caregiver award and for first responders that night. Entertainment  will follow the dinner in the lodge.

Council

Greetings Sovereign Princes. Hope you all had a great holiday season. A few events of interest for February include our Caregivers Night on the 14th and Scottish Rite Nite at The Syracuse Crunch on the 25th.
As things have been during COVID, these plans could change, so make sure and always check with the office for the current schedule. The Valley is doing its best to present degrees but would always appreciate your input on what degrees you might like to see and participate in. In February we also have Valentine’s Day on the 14th so remember to let your significant other know how much you appreciate them. With elections not far away, if you are interested in holding an elected office contact the office.

Stay safe everybody. God bless you all, Freemasons, our military and this great country.

Princes: February is upon us with warm wishes for the Significant others and ladies in our lives!!
Happy Valentines Day to you all! We as men may not express it as often as we should, but rest assured, you are the key to our hearts and the reason behind our success as men and Masons. We are simply blessed to have you in our lives! February also marks the time in the Valley for our annual Caregiver’s Event and a time to reflect on our First Responders who give their time and efforts in helping others in need. In all humanity what greater gift can a man give than selflessly reaching out to someone in need and providing relief.
February can also be a time of loneliness here in the north country, especially as we are still fighting the challenges of COVID 19 restrictions. Many of our aging Brethren are shut-in, ill, or unable to get out in the snows of winter and could really use a friendly visit or call to let them know we have them in our hearts. I fondly recall a time, about two years ago, when I reached out to a shut-in Brother in his nineties. He was one of us who had a long list of Masonic achievements. He remained active in all his Masonic endeavors until the impacts of aging prevented him from doing so. The simple call from a Brother brightened his whole world! He had not heard from anybody in over 6 months and kept me on the phone for about 2 hours reflecting on the days gone by. That one phone call left a deep and lasting impression on me. It showed me the power and importance of true Brotherly Love and Affection.

I challenge all of us to make a special effort to reach out to a friend or Brother who could use some cheer during the winter season.

Hospitaler
Greetings Brothers, Gary Kall continues to improve and is now taking phone calls at home. Keep up the good work Gary! Other Brothers we need to continue to keep in our thoughts and prayers are Stephen Maddox Sr., Fred Greene, Gary Hartman, Jim Nelson, and our Grand Master Richard J. Kessler.
Most of our snowbird Brothers have made a safe migration South by this time, and many attend Lodge while there.
At the time of this writing Covid infections are on the rise in most districts. Dianne just received an online order of N-95 masks, and we wear them every time we venture out. Please continue practicing safe habits outside of home.
Education assistance forms are now available for our children and grandchildren heading off to college. Get them in soon!
Hospitalers Fund is always in need. If you are able to help, please send a check made out to Central City Bodies, and directed for the Hospitalers Fund,
If you are in need of some confidential assistance please contact Bob Tyrrell or myself…We may be able to provide some type of help.
Don’t forget the Blue envelopes !

Greetings Knights.

I would like to commend the 18° degree cast members, sound and stage crews on an outstanding performance in November. The degree was more meaningful to me as a degree director. I could follow each section and visualize the characters in their parts & come away with the core virtues.

I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and I am excited to see all the other degrees that will be performed. In February we will be having a dinner for the ladies. The details will be coming in the mail.

Council

Greetings Sovereign Princes.
Well a New Year is here – let’s hope this year we can have more together as Brothers. Speaking of the New Year, this would be a good time to make a concentrated effort to include more of the new members in everything we do. There are plenty of newer members that would love to help with events, offer ideas or take part in degrees like our upcoming 15th degree. The Valley cannot thrive if small dedicated members are the only ones participating in our activities.
Long time members are encouraged to reach out to newer members and newer members are encouraged to reach out to the office to let them know how you are willing to help. The next few months are very busy in the Valley and the more participation we have from more members the better. Members are also encouraged to travel safely to other Valleys to see degrees, car pools are a great bonding experience.
Stay safe everybody. God bless you all, Freemasons, our military and this great country.

James McNeal, 32º DSA

Princes: January brings on the wonderful prospects of a brand-new year!!! Its time for reflections on our past few years and hopes and dreams for a better tomorrow. With that in mind I reflect on our obligations as a Freemason. We have obligated ourselves to be better men for ourselves, family and community. The last few years have shown us the world is in a very turbulent time. Through its course, along with bringing deathly sickness the pandemic has isolated us, divided us, infuriated us, and changed our ability to socialize with one another. The way we educate our young has drastically changed, There have been riots in our streets and strong division in our political system. In our lifetimes there has never been a greater need for Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth, a Greater need for Freemasonry to spread its beneficent influence on all mankind. My beloved Brethren let us all go into this new year with refreshed vigor to live up to our Masonic values and do our part in shedding light upon the world!!

In the spirit of that refreshed vigor your Valley has two exciting programs scheduled for the month of January. The first is the Robert Burns Supper at Colemans Restaurant on January 22nd. Although closely associated with the Knights of St. Andrew this is a public event and is open to all Masons and friends. If you have never been, it is truly spectacular and spreads light on how diverse and fun Masonry can be. Following two days later, on the 24 th , is our Spring Membership Night with our ladies and guests. Consider coming out and enjoying a great dinner and program. Be sure to invite a Brother Mason who has expressed interest in the Scottish Rite.

In closing, as one example of a New York Mason who shed his light upon the world, On January 2nd , 1901, U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt received his 1 st Degree in Matinecock Lodge #806, Oyster Bay, New York. He was Vice President of the United States when he joined. Brother Roosevelt, continued on to make an impactful mark upon the world and our fraternity.Over the course of his life, he was an active and proud Mason, visiting lodges in Africa, Europe and South America, as well as regularly attending Masonic Events throughout his two-term presidency. He assisted in laying the cornerstone of the Pilgrim Memorial Monument in
Provincetown, MA. He broke ground for the Spokane, WA, Masonic Temple. He also laid the
cornerstone at the north gate of Yellowstone Park.

Welcome to My World
Notes from the Children’s Dyslexia Center CNY

Where has the time gone? Here we are just two short weeks from Christmas Break and the start of the New Year. It is a very busy time at the Center, but then, when is there a time that we are not busy? Last week we had the privilege of hosting Cindy Allen-Fuss, Associate Director of Clinical Affairs, for our tri- annual Center Visit/Review. We enjoyed having Cindy with us for the day as she observed two of our tutors and reviewed our files. She was suitably impressed with our Center facilities and our training program, so Kudos to the staff and to you for all of your support which allows this to happen. This allows me to give you a little blurb on Lucas, one of the children Cindy observed. Lucas began his tutoring in January of 2021 (filling an opening made by a student who had to withdraw). He had a lot of anxiety and struggled throughout his time here last spring. Upon return this fall, Lucas is a much more settled and focused young man who works hard during his sessions. He was a bit intimidated by having Cindy observe his lesson, but his tutor was able to “bring him back” and complete the lesson. Great job by the tutor and Lucas.

We are still planning our GALA Celebration and fund-raiser for the Second Saturday in March (March 12th ) at Hart’s Hill Inn in Whitesboro. We will have a “Family Fun Celebration” that will include Food, Games, Music and Dancing- something for everybody. (And, of course, we plan to have our exciting Basket Raffle.) . We hope you will consider joining us for an evening of fun and fellowship and suggest you get your reservations in early.

Also in the works will be the Recognition Ceremony, scheduled for the second Tuesday in June (June 14th ). It makes such a difference to have that time to recognize our children and tutors in a special way. Last year the Ceremony was limited to families, tutors, and the Board. We will let you know what will happen this year as we get closer to the date.

I truly cannot tell you how much we appreciate continued support, whether in body or donations. Our wait list is still two years out and we receive an average of one to two applications weekly. We are hoping to offer a Practitioner 2 (Advanced) class this coming academic year, as well as the Practitioner 1, (Scholar) level. Please be aware that we are always looking for qualified people interested in the annual training course. When we have new scholars that allows us to continue to bring in more children. We want to keep training more people as many of our certified trainees are working in schools and some are also taking on children privately. Your support continues to reach many, many families in many ways.

Blessing to all and to all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

2022 Burns Supper

11/23/2021

A Burns supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet Robert Burns, author of many Scots poems and a famous Freemason. The suppers are normally held on or near the poet's birthday, 25 January, sometimes also known as Robert Burns Day or Burns Night, although they may in principle be held at any time of the year. Burns suppers are most common in Scotland and Northern Ireland, but occur wherever there are Burns Clubs, Scottish Societies, Masonic Lodges, expatriate Scots, or aficionados of Burns' poetry.

The Knights of St. Andrew will be holding their 2022 Burns Supper on Saturday, January 22nd, 2022 at  Coleman's Irish Pub 100 South Lowell Avenue, Syracuse, NY. Social Time will begin at 5:00 PM. Dinner will be buffet style and cost will be $45.00 per person. Wives/significant others/guests are invited. Chapter
Greetings Knights. I want to make an appeal to the brothers. I have two vacancies in the Rose Croix line -  a Senior Warden & Junior Warden. I will be calling brothers to see if I can fill these positions.

I have scheduled a rehearsal for 18th degree on Sunday November 14, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Memorial Lodge. I have people coming to help me with tips on directing the degree. I have talked to people involved setting up the degree and have data on the setup. This will help me to familiarize with different sections of the degree.

I also want to comment on the Knighting Ceremony at Norwood. I want to congratulate the 9 new 32nd Degree Brothers. The ceremony was very interesting to witness. I enjoyed meeting 2 cast members for 18th Degree.

The 17th & 18th Degrees are scheduled on November 27, 2021 starting at 9:30 PM. The Veterans Dinner is scheduled for November 15, 2021 at 6:00 PM. Let us keep the veterans in our thoughts.

Council

Greetings Sovereign Princes. Winter is upon us and so is the holiday season.

I would like to congratulate Ill. Earl Tuttle and Ill. Larry Egnaczyk on receiving their white hats.

I want to say hi to all you snowbirds, we miss you all in the Valley and hope to see you all very soon. I want to make sure and wish everybody a joyous holiday season however you celebrate.

Things in the Valley are moving along with degrees being done, events happening and Brothers and their spouses celebrating the familyhood that is Scottish Rite. Please try to remember those less fortunate this holiday season and give whatever you can to help out.

Stay safe everybody. God bless you all, Freemasons, our military and this great country.

James McNeal, 32º DSA
Sovereign Prince

Lodge
Princes: November was yet another bustling month for the Valley. Our Veterans Recognition
Night was a huge success coupled with the presentation of “The Ring that went around the World” A tribute to and an emotional rendition of Patriotism, Heroism, and Masonic Brotherhood that was written by our very own Ill. Sandy Sampson. Then the end of November followed up with the Conferral of the Rose Croix 17 th and 18 th Degrees and now December is ALREADY HERE!!

Soon we will all be braving snow and ice as old Jack Frost brings in the deepest of winter weather. But December also brings on several religious holidays; Hanukkah; Christmas; and Kwanzaa along with warm cozy nights with family and friends. December also brings on Santa and the Joy of wonderment in little children’s eyes. Whatever your specific December holiday celebration the Valley of Syracuse, and the Officers of the Lodge of Perfection want to wish you and your Families the very best of the holiday season and many wishes for a Prosperous New Year!!

Contemplating on the Holiday Seasons as a Freemason I wonder…. (An Excerpt from an article written by Brother David Downie of St. Trinian’s Lodge #2050 Isle of Man) Why do we have this special holiday season? We celebrate religious beliefs about the birth of goodness, and hope for the future: we reaffirm the belief that people are basically good and can develop into loving, caring, helpful, supporting friends to each other. We look to a new year where things can be better. We do this at this season whether we are celebrating the Christian nativity or the Jewish Hanukkah with its lights and gifts in the story of peace, or the Hindu Diwali with its festival of lights and gifts of sweets and toys, or even if we hold no formal religion except the pleasure of seeing a child’s face transfixed with wonder and delight. And why are we Freemasons? Because we believe that there are important things like goodness and hope for the future and that men can develop into loving, caring, helpful, supporting Brethren to their families and each other. We not only look to a future where things can be better, but we see it as our role as Free and Accepted or Symbolic Masons, to help build that future. So, I feel I can safely say that The December Holiday Season embodies Freemasonry idealism, not only do the holidays shows so many of these signs and tokens of Freemasonry they bring us a message that we as Freemasons can heed for the whole year long ...Peace on Earth and Goodwill towards Men!!!

Peace be with you my Princes

Hospitaler
Greetings Princes, I am delighted to report that Illustrious Gary Kall is now back home and on the mend!! Other Brothers we need to continue to keep in our thoughts and prayers are John Fuller, and Stephen Maddox Sr.

Covid infections are still a concern, and many of us will soon be attending Holiday parties and dinners, so please continue to use common sense when out and about. Dianne and I got our booster shots last week and hopefully if exposed it will keep us safe.

If any Brother or Sister that reads this article has an issue and would like me to include it in this report, please contact me and we will discuss it.

The Hospitalers Fund is always in need. If you are able to help, please send a check made out to Central City Bodies, and directed for the Hospitalers Fund,

If you are in need of some confidential assistance please contact Bob Tyrrell or myself…We may be able to provide some type of help.

Have a Merry Christmas!

Welcome to My World
Notes from the Children’s Dyslexia Center CNY

Finally, it really begins to feel a bit more ‘normal’ at the Center, even with the continuing COVID protocols. All of our children and tutors have begun their sessions and are getting ‘reacquainted” from last year or acquainting themselves this year. We still miss having the families entering the Center but understand the necessity of strict protocols during this time.

The Center is a busy place, as usual, with 17 children, 8 tutors (including myself) and 3 trainees (two Level 1 and one Level 2). We have a minimum of 8 children and 5 tutors any given day, and of course, Gineal at the Front Desk to help keep us all in order.

It hardly seems possible that we are already approaching the Holiday Season but the encroaching cool weather and solid precipitation is a good indicator. Since we started a week later than usual, we will be moving our mid-year and end of year assessments ahead a week which will still allow us to plan our Recognition Ceremony for the second Tuesday in June (June 14 th ). It makes such a difference to have that time to recognize our children and tutors.

We are planning our GALA Celebration and fund-raiser for the Second Saturday in March (March 12th ) at Hart’s Hill Inn in Whitesboro. We hope to have a “Family Celebration” this year that will include Games, Music and Dancing- something for everybody. (And, of course, we plan to have our exciting Basket Raffle.) .We hope you will consider joining us for an evening of fun and fellowship.

We continue to be ever appreciative of your continued support, whether in body or donation (and for many, both) that allows us to help so many children in Central New York. Our wait list is still two years out and we are always looking for more people interested in our annual training course that allows us to continue to bring in more children. Many of our certified trainees are working schools and some are also taking on children privately. Your support reaches many, many families in many ways.

Blessing to all and have a Happy Holiday Season!

Blue Envelope Appeal
You recently received the annual “Blue Envelope Appeal” letter from Supreme Council requesting your annual contribution. I urge you to support this request. Any contribution you may make is significant.

The number of members from a state that contribute to the Blue Envelope Appeal directly impacts the dollar amounts allocated to each state for distribution to our scholars. The percentage of members from each Valley that contribute is key to distribution of the Abbott Scholarship Funds and to the Valley’s rankings in the Supreme Council “Valley of Excellence” ratings.

The Valley of Syracuse receives an average of eleven Scholarship applications from our college students seeking financial aid to assist them pay for their education each year. Abbott Scholarships funded by Supreme Council, NMJ or a New York State Educational Financial Assistance Grant funded by the New York State Scottish Rite Charities Corporation are assisting the children and grandchildren of our current and deceased members. We have eight students related to our Valley’s members currently receiving Scottish Rite funded financial aid for the 2021 - 2022 academic year. These young people are our future.

We thank you for your support.

Jim Swan
Valley Secretary

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
