Greetings Brethren,
Congratulations and welcome to the new Scottish Rite Brothers who received the 4° in the Fall and January. You have officially begun your journey in the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. The 4° is really just an introduction of the various degrees and philosophies of the Rite. The 7° presentation on February 22nd will take a different approach from other degrees as we present it as a radio drama. Stage directions will be provided by a narrator and, we hope, the bulk of the cast will be fairly new members.
Also happening in February will be our Sweetheart Dinner on the 15th and a Knights of St. Andrew meeting at 7:45 PM on the 29th. We look forward to seeing you at all these events.
Speaking of the Knights of St. Andrew, a huge thank you to all those who attended our Burns Supper at Coleman’s. We had a great turnout and a fabulous time! If you haven’t attended this annual event yet, you are missing a great time - don’t let the kilts and haggis scare you. Thanks to all who recited poems, Doug Havens for his piping, and Rev Steve Maddox for his address to the haggis. I can’t wait for next year.
Letters will be going out to every member soon asking for updated contact information. PLEASE fill this form out, even if it hasn’t changed in a while. We NEED to keep this current so we can get in touch with you. The Valley of Syracuse does a pretty good job of staying in contact with our membership but Supreme Council is looking for more points of contact and we are striving to comply - send us your mailing address, email and all possible phone numbers.
February & March can be tricky months with our local weather. If you would like to attend an event but are not sure about getting here, call our Office and we can see if we can arrange a nearby Brother to give you a lift. Stay warm & stay safe.
See you soon...

Greetings Brothers.
The second half of the year is going to be quite busy with the degrees coming up. February 15th we will have our Sweetheart program, social starts at 6:00pm, dinner 6:30, program at 7:30.
February 22nd will be the presentation of the 7th degree starting at 7:30 sharp. See you there.

Greetings Brethren,
The Valley is putting on a Sweetheart Dinner on Feb 15 from 6 - 9pm. Get your reservations in early. On the 22nd of Feb there will be a presentation of the 7th degree. It will begin at 7:30pm.
During winter time many blue lodges go dark. It is a good time to check on those you haven't seen in a while and spread some brotherhood. Contacting newer brothers can help to make them feel part of the lodge.

Greetings Brethren!
With the Valley of Syracuse’s year of 2016 off to an enthusiastic start I would like to thank all the members who participated in January’s Lodge of Perfection degrees and rehearsals. Your participation in the degrees was instrumental in portraying the lessons of the degrees and providing a last impression on the brothers. Along with the degree work the Valley also had 2 very successful social events including the Membership dinner with the ladies and the Burn’s supper. Thank you to all who attended.
The month of February proves to be another exciting month! The Lodge of Perfection starts off February 8th with a rehearsal for the 7th degree “Provost and Judge”. This degree should impress that justice should be impartial and tempered with mercy, and teaches us we should not judge hastily. Then on February 15th the Chapter of Rose Croix will be hosting the Valley’s Sweethearts dinner. On February 22nd the Lodge of Perfection will be presenting the 7th degree. February 29th will be a rehearsal for the 14th degree to be conferred on March 28th.
As a reminder to all the newer members of the Valley we are always looking for new members to join us in portraying our degrees. Please see me if you have an interest in participating or if you have any questions as to what it is like to be on a degree cast. There are always many non-speaking parts along with the speaking parts. The more members on the degree cast the more of a lasting impression will be experienced by the candidate.
Please Brethren, remember to contact brothers you haven’t seen in awhile and help get them back to attending the exciting events we have planned for them.
May the blessing of the Great Architect be upon all of you, your families, and our nation’s military service members.
See you soon in the Lodge of Perfection!

Greetings Brethren, and welcome to February.
As we head into the middle of winter please use caution when working outside. Many seniors like myself have an independent streak and are reluctant to ask for help when shoveling the driveway and things of that nature, which we have done all of our lives. This can be a recipe for disaster! Accept the fact you are a year older this winter, and maybe could use a hand.
I recently spoke with Joe Stevens who hopes to be coming home from rehab soon, and might appreciate a call.
Please call Bob Tyrrell or myself with any problems we may be able to assist you with.

Welcome to My World
Notes from the Children’s Dyslexia Center CNY
Wow! Here we are in 2016! Who knew time could go so fast – Eleven years ago at this time we had been in our Dyslexia Center not quite a year. The first children to attend the Center have long since graduated from High School and gone on to college. What a great tribute to all of those who have supported us and worked so hard to help the children.
Along that vein I would like to recap some of our numbers:
124 children have attended the Center since our inception. 96 of those have completed two or more years or achieved near grade level reading upon their departure from the program. At present we have 18 children enrolled and 14 children on our waitlist. Of the 18 children attending this year, 10 are in their second year and 8 are new to the program. We have three scholars and five certified tutors working with the children and everyone is doing very well.
Speaking of doing very well I want to let you know how Justin is faring- at present he has worked with all of the rules and tools on Level I and has begun to work on more advanced phonemes on Level II. Justin is very precise in what he does at the Center and I am sure the New Year will be seeing him move forward with even greater confidence. As always, thank you for the support which makes this possible!
Save the Date! We are planning a second annual GALA on March 12th at Hart’s Hill Inn in New Hartford. Lots of good food and fun will be happening as we celebrate: “Building Blocks to Reading”.
More information to follow but please feel free to contact us anytime if you would like to attend, be involved and/or make a donation.
